Discovery 300Tdi
| | Model of the car: | Discovery 300Tdi | | | General comments: | My Disco is a 4 in-line 300Tdi turbocharged diesel powered model. It has less power than the V8 gas version (113Hp instead of 188Hp of the V8 and 138 Hp of the new 5T "Tempest" 5 in-line diesel unit), but has a lot of torque. Despite of the road looking bodywork, it's a true off-road vehicle. And that means it has many limits on the highways: acceleration is poor, roadholding is good but affected by weight, high barycenter, suspensions' scheme and m+s tyres. But if you choose a quiet driving style it's fine. On narrow, winding trails dimension are a problem, so driving on the Alps smaller 4-wheels drive off-road are more agile. The best terrain for the Disco is, perhaps, the desert. I took my Disco to Libya six years ago, driving 1,000 miles off-road and crossing the Erg of Awbari: I fell in love with her. And now I'm just wandering when I'll be able to go back to Africa with my Disco! P.s.: permanent 4-wheel drive is great in winter on slippery roads and on the snow. | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | On the road: poor acceleration, steering, handling. Off-road: rear angle. | | | Previous car: | Ford Explorer. |
