| | Model of the car: | Discovery | | | General comments: | Be sure to get the extended warranty if you plan to keep your discovery past the manufacturers warranty period. We had some major work done during the warranty period, with the most serious being cylinder head valve jobs. I learned from the service folks here that there is a design flaw in the engine heads, resulting in carbon build-up and sticking exhaust valves. Just the labor alone for this repair is $2500, and there's no guarantee that the 'fix' will actually fix the problem. I had it done once under warranty and now it needs it again while it's out of warranty. I was told there is still no permanent solution for this problem on the new vehicles but they think they found a short valve stem made by Ford that may solve the problem. | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | -Prone to mechanical problems, especially carbon build-up on valves.-Hard to see stop lights because windshield is cut-off at top.-Very few bells & whistles for the price | | | Previous car: | Toyota Sequoia - much bigger SUV with more luxury and very similar mileage |
